What you are buying

Authenticity

A re-edition, stated plainly

These are not originals, and we never present them as such. They are faithful re-editions: the same blueprints, the same proportions, the same material, made today by people who make them every week.

What conforms

Drawing, proportion, material

Each piece is worked from the original blueprint reference: PJ-BU-02-A for the Pigeon Hole Desk, and its equivalent for everything else in the catalogue. Widths, depths, heights and section thicknesses follow the drawing rather than a convenient modern approximation.

The material follows too: solid teak throughout, with hand-woven natural cane where the original specified it. No veneer over board, no stained hardwood standing in for teak, no concealed fixings doing the work that joinery should.

What does not

Age is the one thing we will not fake

Originals carry sixty years of office life: repainted edges, worn arrises, shrinkage, repairs. We do not reproduce any of it. Distressing a new piece to imply a provenance it does not have is the line between a re-edition and a forgery.

What you receive is new, clean and honest, in the finish you chose. The patina is yours to put on it.

Sixteen pieces, one workshop

Who makes them

Carpenters, weavers, polishers

Our production is made in eastern India by experienced carpenters, weavers and polishers. Work is divided the traditional way: one trade cuts and joins, another weaves the cane, a third brings up the finish. That is how the originals were made, and it is still how the result holds together.

Everything is made to order. That is why lead times run to weeks rather than days, and why the wood finish is a question we ask rather than an option we list.
